Straight off the back of Bowen, the Custom Lithium Can-Am headed west to St George.
The Dam Buster 160 is run by SEQORRA over a fast 18.35 kilometre short course at the Bore Paddock, sanctioned by AASA and a round of the QLD ARB Off Road Racing Championship. More than 55 cars took on the course across the two days.
The Results - Outright
1st - Clayton Chapman (Class U, car #15) — 1:14:19.093
2nd - Troy Duff (Class U, #24) — +54.644
3rd - Brett Comiskey (Class 4, #434) — +4:14.014
Congratulations to Clayton on a dominant run. Comiskey backing up a Don River Dash outright win with a third at St George speaks for itself.
How We Went
Andrew & Kirsty Holmes - car #698, Class 6
30th outright, 8th in class. 1:31:10.370.
Here's the number that matters more to us than the position: we completed all seven sections. Of 58 entries, only 38 went the full distance. The results sheet is full of DNFs, DNSs and cars that didn't see lap four.
The first section cost us - fourteen minutes and change. This was our first crack on dirt and let us tell you something - this is nothing like the Don River. When you look at our starting lap times against a pace we were running comfortably by the end. From section five onward we were into 12:30s and 12:36s. It almost felt like a different car and a different driver to the one that rolled out that morning, learning in real time mid-event. Some real world experience and learning to use the go pedal made a massive change to our average speed over the course. A couple of hairy moments, but caught, and we were on our way to a massive amount of seat experience coming out the end of the race.
Two races into the program, that's exactly the trajectory we want. Finish, learn, get quicker.
Thanks to SEQORRA, McIntyre Agriculture, the officials, in particular Iain Robertson who has been such a huge and welcoming part of our introduction to offroad racing, and everyone who made the weekend happen.
